VOYAGER - 2009 Trip Descriptions

  3/4-DAY FLUKE FISHING TRIP
  (June 5 through August 19)

These daily 6-hour, 3/4-day Fluke fishing trips are fun for the whole family.  From the novice to the pro, everyone will enjoy catching these tasty fish.   Our Fluke trips usually find the VOYAGER fishing within 30 minutes from our dock in local, shallow waters with great results.   Fluke range in size from 1½ pounds all the way to 12 pound 'doormats'.  Fluke fishing is done during the warm summer months, so while riding to the grounds, you can relax on our upper sundeck and enjoy the weather.   We sail for Fluke every day TUESDAY through SUNDAY.   Sorry, NO Fluke trips on MONDAYs or where otherwise noted on our Trip Calendar.  Open Boat - NO reservations required.

The fare is $50 adult, $45 senior and $35 child.   Rod rentals are available for an additional $5 and include hooks and one sinker.

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

Rod & Reel - Light to medium-action spinning or conventional rod and reel (20 to 30-lb test monofilament line)

Tackle - 3 to 8-oz sinkers, 2/0 to 4/0 hooks, 2 to 4 oz. bucktail jigs

Bait - Squid and spearing (provided)

  SPECIAL DEEPWATER TILEFISH TRIP - 22 Person Limit  (May 9, 16, 23, June 7, 21, 28, July 5, 19, 26, Aug 2, 9, 16)

Check our schedule for specific trip dates.  These very special 21-hour trips target offshore spots in depths ranging from 400 to more than 1,000 feet.   On these trips, we travel during the night and drift for Tilefish during the day.   We leave our dock at 10:00 PM and return between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM the following day.   A sleeping bunk is included with your fare (we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.)   Reservations ARE required.

The fare is $300.  Rental rods for Tilefishing are NOT available on these trips.

NOTE:   You can confirm the VOYAGER is sailing on a TILEFISH TRIP by calling 732-295-3019 (select menu option 4) any time after 6:00 PM on the day of the trip.   We will not sail if winds more than 20 knots are forecast.

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

Rods and Reels - 6½ or 7-foot rod with Penn 3/0 or 4/0 equivalent conventional reel (50 to 65-lb. test monofilament or braided line).   We strongly suggest using braided line since we will be fishing in very deep water.   Rental rods for Tilefishing are NOT available on these trips.

Tackle - 16 to 48-oz bank sinkers, 5/0 to 8/0 bait holder hooks, 5/0 to 8/0 Octopus or Octopus circle hooks, 16 to 24-oz jigs.

Bait - Squid (provided)

  SPECIAL TILEFISH/POLLOCK/HAKE TRIP - 22 Person Limit   (June 14, July 12, August 16)

Check our schedule for specific trip dates.  These special 21-hour trips target offshore Pollock and White Hake at night and Tilefish during the day in depths ranging from 400 to more than 1,000 feet.  On these trips, we travel during the night, stop at a few wreck sites on the way out and jig for Pollock and Hake, and then continue offshore and drift for Tilefish during the day.   We leave our dock at 6:00 PM and return between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM the following day.    A sleeping bunk is included with your fare (we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.)  Reservations ARE required.

The fare is $325.  Rental rods for Tilefishing are NOT available on these trips.

NOTE:   You can confirm the VOYAGER is sailing on a TILEFISH/POLLOCK/HAKE TRIP by calling 732-295-3019 (select menu option 4) any time after 12:00 PM noon on the day of the trip.  We will not sail if winds more than 20 knots are forecast.

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

Rods and Reels - For Pollock and Hake jigging we recommend a 6½ or 7-foot rod with Penn 3/0 or Jigmaster equivalent conventional reel (40 to 50-lb. test monofilament line).   For Tilefish, we recommend 6½ or 7-foot rod with Penn 3/0 or 4/0 equivalent conventional reel (50 to 65-lb. test monofilament or braided line).

TUNA and TILEFISH SUPERPALOOZA - 22 Person Limit   (August 23, 30)

On these 40-hour Superpalooza trips we leave our dock at 10:00 PM and travel during the night.   We will spend the first full day drift fishing for Tilefish and/or trolling tuna as the weather permits.  At sunset, we will start chunking and fish all night for Tuna and Swordfish.   On the morning of the second day, we will make a couple more stops for Tilefish, jig some Mahi-Mahi, troll or just head home.   We return to the dock about 2:00 PM on the second day.  This schedule allows us the best chance for a good tuna catch as well as plenty of time for Tilefish.  A sleeping bunk is included with your fare (we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.)   Reservations ARE required.

We target offshore spots in depths ranging from 400 to more than 1,000 feet.   We may also stop on an offshore wreck for Pollock, Hake, or Wreckfish so bring appropriate tackle.

The fare is $450.  Tuna rod rentals are available for $25 additional.   Rental rods for Tilefishing are NOT available on these trips.

IMPORTANT NOTE:   If high winds prevent us from sailing at 10:00 PM, we will try to sail on the following morning at 8:00 AM and turn the trip into a 30-hour trip, or at 4:00 PM and turn the trip into a standard tuna trip.  If we shorten the trip, we will refund the cost difference.
