VOYAGER 2017 Trip Descriptions & Suggested Tackle


  OPEN BOAT BOTTOM FISHING TRIPS – LING and SEA BASS

These Open Boat full-day inshore trips are for tasty table fare and are designed for the novice to the pro.   We will target local wrecks and rough bottom spots for Ling, Black Sea Bass and sometimes a Cod or two.   These trips usually find the VOYAGER fishing within 60 minutes from our dock.   This is an Open Boat trip and you don't need to make reservations.   Like other party boats, we work on a first come, first serve basis, so all you need to do is arrive at the boat anywhere from one to one-half hour before sailing time

Trip Times – 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.   See Trip Calendar for dates

Fares – $70 adult, $65 senior, $35 child.   Rod rentals are an additional $5 and include hooks and one sinker

Bait – Clams (provided)

Rod & Reel – 6 or 7-foot medium rod with Penn 2/0 or equivalent conventional reel (20 to 30-lb monofilament)

  OPEN BOAT LING MARATHON TRIPS

  OPEN BOAT SATURDAY NIGHT LING TRIPS
Ling often bite better at night.   These Saturday night Open Boat inshore trips are for tasty table fare and are designed for the novice to the pro.   We will target local wrecks and rough bottom spots for Ling (Red Hake).
These trips usually find the VOYAGER fishing within 60 minutes from our dock.   This is an Open Boat trip and you don't need to make reservations.   Like other party boats, we work on a first come, first serve basis, so all you need to do is arrive at the boat anywhere from one to one-half hour before sailing time

Trip Times – 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM midnight.   Saturday nights during summer months.   See Trip Calendar for dates

Fares – $60 adult, $55 senior, $30 child.   Rod rentals are an additional $5 and include hooks and one sinker

Bait – Clams (provided)

  OPEN BOAT COD TRIPS – COD, POLLOCK and LING

These special Open Boat trips offer anglers an opportunity to fish offshore wrecks for Cod, along with some Pollock and Ling.   We fish during the day and all of the fish we catch on these trips are excellent eating.   These trips are offered during the spring, fall and winter months.   Our heated handrails will keep your hands warm and toasty,
but be sure to bring along plenty of warm clothing.   This is an Open Boat trip and you don't need to make reservations.   Like other party boats, we work on a first come, first serve basis, so all you need to do is arrive at the boat anywhere from one to one-half hour before sailing time

Trip Times – 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM.   See Trip Calendar for dates

Fare – $100 adult, $95 senior, $50 child.   Rod rentals are an additional $5 and include hooks and one sinker

Bait – Clams (provided)

  NANTUCKET WRECK ADVENTURE TRIPS – 32 Passenger Limit
Our Nantucket Wreck Adventure trips take you to fish famous wrecks such as the Republic, the Pan Pennsylvania and the Andrea Doria.   The trips will search for Giant Cod, Jumbo Pollock, White Hake and Black Sea Bass.   We will be fishing in depths from 200 to 350 feet using both bait and jigs.   These trips are limited to just 32 anglers for your fishing comfort.  A sleeping bunk is included with your fare and we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.   Hot meals as well as hot and cold beverages are available from our Galley at a reasonable cost

Trip Times – Our Nantucket trips leave at 7:00 PM and return three (3) days later at approximately 7:00 PM

Fare – $700 per person.   Sorry, rental rods are NOT available

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

Rods and Reels – 6 or 7-foot heavy rod with Penn 3/0 or Shimano Tallica 16 2-speed or equivalent conventional reel (40 to 60-lb test monofilament or braided line), red or orange squid skirts, pink and chartreuse grubs.   Also bring along a lighter outfit for Sea Bass and possibly Fluke in shallower 80-100 foot water.

Tackle – 12 to 32-oz bank sinkers, 3/0 to 7/0 bait holder hooks, 3-way swivels, 6 to 16-oz. jigs

  1-DAY, 2-DAY and 2-DAY DEEP DROP TILEFISH TRIPS – 26 Passenger Limit
These very special trips are for Tilefish diehards and offer a whopping number of hours at the rail.   We offer these trips during the late spring and summer months.   On these trips, we travel during the night, and drift for Tilefish during the day.   Fishing time on 1-day trips is from sunrise to sunset.   For 2-day trips, fishing time is from sunrise to sunset on the first day plus another 8 hours on the second day.   For 2-day trips, fishing time is from sunrise to sunset on the first day and from sunrise to sunset on the second day!   A sleeping bunk is included with your fare and we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.   Hot meals as well as hot and cold beverages are available from our Galley at a reasonable cost

Trip Times for 1-day trips – We leave at 10:00 PM and return between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM the second day
Trip Times for 2-day trips    – We leave at 10:00 PM and return between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM the second day
Trip Times for 2-day trips – We leave at   8:00 PM and return between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM the third day

Fares – $400 for 1-day trips, $475 for 2-day trips, $575 for 2-day trips.   Some trips are Limited Load and carry fewer than 26 passengers; these trips have higher fares.   Sorry, rental rods for Tilefishing are NOT available on these trips

Bait – Tilefish eat a great variety of things.  We provide Squid, but you are welcome to bring along other goodies

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

Rods and Reels – 6 to 8-foot heavy duty rod with a single or two-speed conventional reel filled with approximately 500 yards of 50 to 65-lb. test braided Spectra line.   We strongly suggest using braided line since we will be fishing in very deep water (up to 1,000 feet)

Tackle – 16 to 80-oz bank sinkers, 5/0 to 8/0 bait holder hooks, 5/0 to 8/0 Octopus or Octopus circle hooks, 60 or 80 lb. leader material, heavy-duty swivels, 16 to 32-oz jigs.   We use 2-hook bottom rigs or 1-hook rigs when there are really big fish around.   The Captain will let you know which one to use.   You can tie your own rigs or buy them on the boat for a reasonable fee

  OVERNIGHT CANYON TUNA TRIPS – 26 Passenger Limit
During the late summer and fall months, our 21-hour, overnight canyon tuna trips offer excitement, sport and the ultimate in fishing challenges.   We travel about 4 to 5 hours to the undersea canyons at the edge of the continental shelf where we catch Yellowfin, Albacore and Bigeye tuna as well as Mahi-Mahi, Mako shark, White Marlin and Swordfish.   Tuna range in size from 20 to over 300-lbs and swordfish can easily exceed 100-lbs.   These trips are recommended for anglers with moderate experience who are in good physical condition.   A sleeping bunk is included with your fare and we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.   Hot meals as well as hot and cold beverages are available from our Galley at a reasonable cost

Tuna Rods and Reels – One stand-up type tuna rod with 2-speed 30 or 50 conventional reel (60 to 80-lb. test monofilament line), plus one 7-foot tuna jigging rod with Penn 3/0 or Penn Jigmaster equivalent reel (50-lb test monofilament or 50 to 65-lb test braided line)

Tuna Tackle – 50, 60 and 80-lb test fluorocarbon leader material, barrel swivels (provided), 5/0 to 8/0 chunking or circle hooks (6/0 chunking hooks provided), 6 to 8-oz hammer finish diamond jigs, 1 to 8-oz egg sinkers, 8 to 16-oz bank sinkers, rubber bands, Cyalume light sticks (assorted colors)

Squid & Bait Rods and Reels – One light spinning rod and reel for squid and bait fishing (8 to 10-lb monofilament)

Squid & Bait Tackle – Squid jigs and sabiki-style bait catcher rigs

  30-HOUR CANYON TUNA/MAHI TRIPS – 26 Passenger Limit
These 30-hour trips offer anglers more canyon fishing time and represent one of the best values going.   We offer these trips during the late summer and fall months.   Upon arriving at the fishing grounds, we will spend the afternoon fishing for Mahi-Mahi or possibly do a bit of tuna trolling if there has been hot trolling action.   The decision on what to fish for will be a 'captain's choice' depending on conditions.   We will then fish for tuna during the 'sunset bite', the entire 'night bite', and the 'morning bite'.   This works out to between 12 and 15 hours of fishing time for tuna alone.   A sleeping bunk is included with your fare and we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.  Hot meals as well as hot and cold beverages are available from our Galley at a reasonable cost

IMPORTANT NOTE:   If high winds prevent us from sailing at 7:00 AM, we will try to sail later in the day and turn the trip into a standard tuna trip.   If we shorten the trip, we will credit you the cost difference

  OFFSHORE JUMBO SEA BASS, PORGY, POLLOCK & COD TRIPS – 44 Person Limit
These fall and winter trips leave at night and travel to wrecks located approximately 50 to 80 miles off the New Jersey coast by daybreak.   A wide variety of fish are found on offshore wrecks, but the catch is generally Black Sea Bass from 2 to 7-lbs and Porgies from 2 to 3-lbs, plus some Pollock and Cod up to 30-lbs.   All of the fish we catch on these trips are excellent eating and anglers often make limit catches.   Our heated handrails will keep your hands warm and toasty, but be sure to bring along plenty of warm clothing.   A sleeping bunk is included with your fare and we suggest you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow.   Hot meals as well as hot and cold beverages are available from our Galley at a reasonable cost
